"We're all going to die down here"
Fresh out of rehab, Casey Myrtle is eager to go out with her crazy friends for a night in New York. After almost crashing on the highway due to her best friend and not so good influence Shana, they successfully make to the "surprise" Shana and Casey's two other friends, Aya and Julie, had set up for her- a concert where her ex-boyfriends band is playing. Caught off guard she is "kidnapped" by a shady looking guy who announces that the annual "Survive the night" will be taking place tonight in the subway tunnels underneath the city. Intrigued, Casey, Shana, Aya, Julie, Sam ( Casey's ex) and Woody ( Sam's band-mate) all decide to head underground and seek out "Survive the Night". If they only knew what terror was awaiting them beneath the tracks...
Don't get me wrong, this book had a great story and had me flipping page after page, but my reason for this not so high review came down to two things; 1. cliche-ness and 2. predictability. Even from the very beginning, the excerpt on the back of the book says- and this is not a spoiler- that "...she (Casey) comes across Julie's mutilated body..." From that point on I knew there were gonna be a lot more murders than were unnecessary. Also, as soon as Casey reconnected with her boyfriend Sam and had a heart to heart "talk" I knew something bad was going to happen to either him, or Shana because those were the people Casey was the closest to. It was also pretty cliche (but cute) how Sam and Casey start talking again... What can I say it was adorable. But with all this murder going on it's kinda hard to get attached to any of the characters. In the end, this is a very fast paced story, maybe almost too fast paced, and all the interesting gory stuff starts to happened about 80 pages in so it is definitely a fast read.
